Samantha Terry assumed she'd pursue a career in behavioral disorders, but a disappointing part-time job during her junior year at UNC dashed that idea. The Morehead Foundation that summer placed her in a public relations internship with the London boutique firm Neville McCarthy Associates, which specializes in fashion and beauty. A new career path opened up. "Before this internship, I never considered a career in PR and had very little knowledge of what it entailed," Terry said. "But I gained practical, hands-on experience and found my work there interesting and challenging." Since then, Terry has combined that new-found love for PR with her affinity for the arts and is now a public relations associate with the Brooklyn Children's Museum, the nation's first museum created for children. She handles most of the museum's media needs, from writing press releases to pitching stories to executing publicity strategies. It's a job she loves — and it might never have happened without The Morehead. "I am sure that my life would be very different without The Morehead," Terry says. "My summer experiences had a direct impact on the path I chose to take in life so far." Aside from her career, The Morehead also stoked another hidden fire in Terry: a love for travel. "The Morehead intensified my interest in seeing new places and experiencing other cultures and the way people live," she says. "The Morehead has bitten me with the travel bug."
